Generations of Change
A woman short but strong.
A heart so warm with hair so long.
Three children provide will power that won’t falter her.
Her body doesn’t give her credit to the magnitude of her character.
The chaos of war and uncertainty of life, a son innocently declines-
The certainty of death by poison in soup.
Two generations ago there was a change of hope.
A strong woman with a character so tall-
She didn’t listen to life’s desperate call.
Three children she saved from despair and poverty.
A journey across the terrifying seas, three children in tow on a boat with dozens of pleas.
A new life starts in a land down under-
Where western names are claimed after ponder.
Generations of change started that day,
We stand on the shoulders of the courage of others- the woman providing for three- she’s the inspiration within me.
I was born from the power of others,
With food on the table and running water.
This hope in me was passed down in generations of change.
My Mum
My mum knows how to fill my stomach up with yum,
She can cook a treat leaving contentment on your tongue.
My mum cleaned my bum and watched me grow,
She taught me that we reap what we sow.
My mum has a fire to fight she never gives up,
She fought with cancer and told it to shut up.
My mum has a pointy chin and big eyes,
She always smells nice which is no surprise-
Because my mum is the feeling of home and her beauty compares to none.
Grace is her name, people know her by Jenny-but to me she’ll always be mum.
